The peace tree

I arrived in Rio de Janeiro yesterday and we’re in the midst of a civil war between police and drug dealers. It is contained into certain areas, but everyone is anxious and scared.

So, I decided to do the following: to collect a lot of tweets using the words  ‘peace’, ‘war’ and ‘rio’ (paz, guerra e rio), and I’m going to write them down on pieces of paper, and fold them in the shape of pigeons. I also got some people to write their own messages and submit to me directly.

I then brought the origamis to decorate a tree at a public park, by a bike path, so everyone can see and interact with it. It only makes it more fitting that the entire city is already decorated for Christmas. So I consider this my own contribution: The Peace Tree.
